Garmin Zumo 450
The zumo 450 is positioned towards the budget conscience rider who wants a solid and reliable GPS designed for his or her motorcycles. And since this new GPS device is geared towards motorcycle riders, it makes sense to design it as a glove friendly device. That's why this GPS features left-handed controls and oversized touchscreen buttons, as well as waterproof (IEC 529 IPX-7 standards), sunlight-readable, UV-resistant screen.
Like the other Zumos, the 450 comes with a design that is easy to operate. The buttons are big, sturdy, and located along the left side of the device so that you can operate it left handed, keeping your right hand firmly on the bike. The plastic used on the GPS is designed to be resistant to nature’s elements such as rain, and UV light. For mounting, the zumo comes with a standard 4 hold AMPS pattern motorcycle mount. There is a motorcycle power cable and security screwdriver to help protect your GPS. Another security feature is Garmin Lock which will only allow operation of the GPS with a PIN number.
There are also motorcycle specific software features on the Zumo 450. For example there is a resettable fuel gauge which will warn you when your fuel is getting low. Moreover, if you're low on fuel the Zumo 450 can point you to the nearest gas stations via the extensive POI database. There are other software features that you don’t find on many other Garmin devices such as the ability to save routes. You can even save a route, export it to an SD card, pass the card along to a friend, and they can import the route into their own Zumo. This is a great feature for group rides where you want to stick together, but have the freedom to not necessarily travel as a tight pack. Everyone can follow the same route on their GPS at their own time, yet still traveling together.
The Zumo 450 is designed to absorb shocks on the road. It is protected against vibrations and it's built using plastics which are fuel resistant. In the future the Zumo will be added TOPO amps for off-road locations.
The 450 has less features than the other motorcycle GPS devices. This does not make it any less capable of a GPS navigation system, but many people don’t need features like traffic receivers or Bluetooth hands free calling. For those who do, step up to the Zumo 550 which has an MP3 player, a traffic receiver, text-to-speech, and can even connect to XM satellite services.

Simply enter a destination, and the Garmin zumo 450 takes you there with turn-by-turn voice directions. In addition, the Garmin zumo 450 accepts customized points of interest such as school zones and safety cameras and includes proximity alerts to warn of upcoming POIs.
A rechargeable, removable lithium-ion battery is integrated into Garmin zumo 450 for trip planning or use on foot. In addition, the Garmin zumo 450 even accepts electronic maps, such as MapSource US Topo and Topo 24K — making it a great off-road navigator.
Monitor traffic tie-ups with the addition of an optional FM TMC traffic receiver. By adding traffic services and a receiver, your Garmin zumo 450 notifies you of upcoming accidents or road construction ahead on your route. Simply touch the screen to view traffic details or recalculate your route to avoid traffic. Zumo 450 makes it easy to plan your next trip and share routes with your riding buddies. Plan trips on your computer before you start. Search for food and fuel stops and local attractions. Then, transfer your route to zumo and go. At the end of the day, share your favorite places and rides with other zumo riders and review your travels in Google™ Earth. SD card expansion makes it easy to store data and share routes. Download routes to share with your riding buddies — even load Mp3 files to your unit to enjoy tunes on the road. In addition, JPEG Picture Viewer lets you share photos of your adventures with friends and family.
