Well, you'll be happy to know that Bushnell offers now a great solution to solve this problem - the Bushnell BackTracker.
Never get lost again with the easiest to use personal location finder. Just mark the location and BackTrack will help you get back. Use it at the mall and at car parking lots, at the festival, the park, for travel or you next outdoor adventure. Although the unit doesn't contain street maps, it produces a map to show where you are relative to positions you've logged.
The idea behind the Bushnell BackTrack is that you will always be able to 'Back Track' to your starting location. When you set out simply press the button to record your location then set off whilst viewing on screen which direction you came from.
The Bushnell BackTrack aims to counteract these Memento-esque lapses in short-term memory by pairing a digital compass with a high sensitivity SIRF Star III GPS receiver. The BackTrack, once set with any of three location modes will guide you back to a marked spot with directional arrows and distance estimations as your guide.
Largely marketed as a camping and hiking device, the BackTrack seems a little too simple at first glance. There are no fancy maps, no turn-by-turn directions, and no eerie robot voices. Just an interface that looks something like a compass with a groovy blue backlight attached to a somewhat nerdy lanyard.
Yes, many of you will probably ask why yu need a special device and not use your GPS navigator or even cell phone for these unpleasant situations. You may be right, only that the BackTrack is smaller than any GPS unit and gets reception better than any cell phone. If you find yourself getting lost easily, and don’t mind porting around an extra gadget, then give the BackTrack a tryout.
