TomTom GO 630
Traveling with the TomTom 630 GPS is the smart way to travel. It's highly informative, accurate and safe and it offers lots of amazing features.
The new GO 630 is similar to the TomTom GO 730 but comes with maps of the 22 Western European countries. The Go 630 comes with a full set of maps for US, Canada and most European countries. Meaning that you can enjoy exploring sights anywhere without getting lost. The TomTom GO 630 is packed to the brim with some of TomTom's best technologies, including the renowned IQ Routes feature, which calculates journey times as you drive, all while taking into consideration the time of day and the traffic on the roads. For example, if you're driving along a straight road during rush hour when there's a lot of traffic about, this GPS will suggest an alternative route that will save you time and keep your stress levels down. This feature is particularly useful when you're trying to negotiate or avoid traffic jams, and it cuts down the amount you spend on petrol.
The TomTom GO 630 comes complete with built-in Bluetooth technology and an FM transmitter, so you can listen to your favourite radio stations through your car's sound system, at the same time as receiving voice instructions for your route. Thanks to the MapShare function included in the GO 630 package, you can make changes to maps. You can revise street names, traffic directions and other elements, and send them to other members of the TomTom community by connecting your GPS to your computer.
The 630 is positioned at the top-end of the TomTom navigation range, offering intelligent routing using IQ technology. It puts a good deal of information at the driver's fingertips with realtime traffic data, weather forecasts, live fuel pricing, and Local Search.
Additionally, TomTom Map Share is a user-generated map correction system that allows for map data to be updated more frequently, while IQ Routes looks at historical speed data to calculate the fastest route from point to point. Bluetooth handsfree calling and voice command help drivers to keep both hands on the wheel as much as possible. New IQ Routes gives you the fastest route every time by using actual average speeds of travel to calculate your trip rather than posted speed limits. And now, Advanced Lane Guidance brings even more clarity to complex multi-lane exits so you can be even more confident on the road.
The TomTom 630 sticks to the standard PND form. The device measures 3.4 inches tall by 5 inches wide. The unit is 0.9 -inch thick at its thickest point (center) and tapers to thinner edges. On the front of the device you'll find a 4.3-inch full-color touch screen with a 480x272 pixel resolution. On the back is the single speaker. The bottom edge is where the proprietary cradle connection can be found, as well as a microSD card slot, if you want to supplement the unit's 2GB of internal storage.
The TomTom GO 630 also features IQ Routes, a routing algorithm that considers anonymous historical speed data from you and other TomTom users to offer faster and more accurate routes. TomTom Map Share allows users to correct inaccurate map data (such as improperly named streets, turn restrictions, traffic direction, speed limits, etc.), add and edit points of interest, and submit those corrections to be shared with other TomTom users. Users can opt to receive Map Share updates, choose to only receive TomTom-approved updates, or receive no updates at all. Text-to-speech, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and voice command round out the GO 630 impressive collection of technologies.
The 630 unit boots in about 4 seconds and achieves a satellite lock in about 49 seconds in a moderately dense urban area. Once the route is locked in, the GO 630 handles subsequent recalculations surprisingly quickly. The TomTom actually recalculates the route rather than simply attempting to get you back to the preselected one. The simple addition of a wireless data connection creates a quantum leap in the GO's level of functionality and utility. Traffic data is visualized as color overlaid on the map, while live fuel prices are called up at the touch of a button.
Overall the TomTom Go 630 is an excellent navigation device. Switch on and go right out of the box. Just enter the address on the touchscreen or use voice address entry and start driving anywhere in the US, Canada and Europe. TomTom guides you door-to-door with turn-by-turn spoken instructions, including street names. TomTom has the most accurate maps and with TomTom Map Share technology you can instantly modify street names, street direction, POIs, and more on your own device. The TomTom Go 630 is one of the best GPS you can buy.
