Garmin Colorado 300
The Garmin Colorado 300 is one of the first in a new line of handheld GPS receivers from Garmin. It has a completely new interface, very different from the eTrex and 60/76 series units.

The Garmin Colorado 300 is an all terrain, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver. It includes a built-in basemap and an SD card slot located in the waterproof battery compartment. This location makes it easy to insert any number of preprogrammed SD cards such as charts, street maps, topographic maps and more. Wireless capability enables you to share your routes, tracks, and waypoints with other Colorado users.

The updated appearance and the more structured set of buttons give it a very nice look. The monitor has a higher resolution whilst the Rock 'n Roller makes its appearance. The Colorado 300's handheld can be adjusted to your use via profiles, meaning that you can share data through wireless connection, like on a cellphone. If you practice sports you can connect a cadans meter.

The overall useful features include an electronic compass, barometric altimeter, picture viewer and more. The Rock 'n Roller input wheel makes it possible for one handed operation.

The device has a two-tone grey and black case that is mainly made of plastic and rubber. The case is built to IPX-7 standards to make it waterproof. It has two quick access buttons and a multi-functional rotary dial that is tied to the unit’s configurable shortcuts menu. Because the Colorado 300 lacks the touch screen of its Oregon range counterparts, it also lacks the misty protective layer on its display. As a result, the Colorado’s display is of a much higher quality and can be easily viewed in direct sunlight.

By spinning the rotary dial with your thumb, you can easily zoom in and out of maps. Pressing and holding a direction on the pad shifts the display’s focus away from the user’s current position, enabling you to view different portions of the map.

Like the Oregon 300, the Colorado 300 uses a worldwide base map with Digital Elevation Model (DEM) relief mapping for basic topographical information. The unit also provides a 3-D view for more conventional automotive GPS navigation.

The Colorado 300 implements the best use of configurable profiles, altering the unit’s functions according to which profile is chosen. Choose the recreational profile and the unit has a shortcut contextual menu that allows quick access from the rotary dial. The automotive profile, on the other hand, treats the right quick access button as a page button, adds a 3-D view and has an interface similar to automotive GPS devices. This feature allows the Colorado 300 to act as a true automotive/handheld GPS combination.

You can customise the Colorado 300 with five different user profiles; automotive, marine, recreation, fitness or geocache. It is packed with features such as a built-in basemap, high-sensitivity receiver, barometric altimeter, electronic compass, SD card slot, color display, picture viewer and more.

Like the Oregon models, the Colorado 300 allows for wireless sharing between devices. The device will automatically search out compatible models and allow users to share waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches.

With its high-sensitivity GPS receiver, Colorado 300 locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. The advantage is obvious, whether you’re in deep woods or just near tall buildings and trees, you can count on Colorado to help you find your way when you need it the most.

Colorado 300 has a built-in electronic compass that provides bearing information even while you're standing still, and its barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude. You can even use the altimeter to plot barometric pressure over time, which can help you keep an eye on changing weather conditions.

The bottom line is that we are giving it a qualified and warm recommendation. Order your new Oregon now, you can't go wrong with this features rich device.
