Garmin GVN 53 Black Box Automotive GPS System
The Garmin GVN 53 is a 20 channel, variable-use global positioning device. It provides navigation instructions and warnings alerts, which is considerably more favorable than some similarly priced GPS receivers. It also provides verbal navigation instructions. This WAAS-ready GPS device accepts radio signals which can help increase accuracy of positioning data to within 3 meters.

For those of you who require the flexibility of using their GPS in more than one environment, it's perfect. Although it's somewhat heavy, you can customize your ride with the GVN 53, using it as a remote GPS sensor that integrates with your vehicle’s audio/video entertainment system. This way you can hear turn-by-turn directions through your vehicle's stereo and view detailed street maps on your integrated video display. Similar to GVN 52, GVN 53 takes it up a notch with simultaneous output of RGB and composite video, featuring a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for improved reception.

The Garmin GVN 53 has only internal memory. If you plan to store many trips or add base maps, you may wish to consider a unit that has removable storage media. Anyway, the main use of the GVN 53 is to turn your vehicle's audio/video system into a powerful street navigator. Just route directly to specific addresses or points of interest like restaurants, hotels, gas stations, retail shops or ATMs, while viewing your exact location on detailed street maps. It even announces the name of exits and streets through your car's speakers so you never have to take your eyes off the road.

Map graphics are shown on your system's integrated video display. GVN 53 comes preloaded with detailed City Navigator NT map data, and its card slot makes it easy to plug in additional map detail from optional MapSource mapping products. You can even add traffic, weather and radio. How? With an optional XM antenna and a subscription to XM services, you can check the weather, move ahead of traffic and listen to XM radio while you travel. As an alternative, GVN 53 can receive optional TMC traffic alerts (in select cities) when used with a compatible traffic receiver.

Because you don't need to look at it while driving, GVN 53 installs out-of-sight and is easy to use. Hide the GVN 53 under a car seat using the included mounting hardware, and operate it easily with the included wireless remote control. Use the remote to navigate the menu on your video display and make selections to find it and go.

GVN 53 simultaneously outputs both NTSC composite video and RGB with the addition of a custom harness, so you can choose your video output. Its advanced video settings allow screen position to be adjusted for easy viewing from any angle. Display quality will vary depending on the screen being used. For best results and to ensure customer satisfaction, Garmin recommends testing GVN 53 with a specific display model before installing.

The GVN contains software, GPS antenna, RF remote control, wire harness, speaker talk box, installation hardware and documentation. Its physical dimensions are 1.2"h x 4.7"w x 4.6"d.
Check it out now, it's a very useful and easy to operate device.
